Hot Wheels makes a 993 GT2 in their premium line — great casting, terrible slot car. The wheelbase is wrong, the interior tub has no provisions for a motor or drivetrain, and there's nowhere to mount pickups or a track pin. It's a display piece. I wanted it on track.

The first step was getting accurate geometry to work from. I disassembled the car completely and 3D scanned the interior tub and chassis floor, capturing every contour and mounting surface. With that scan data as a reference in CAD, I redesigned both components from scratch — engineering in mounting points for the AFX Mega G+ motor, drive gears, rear axle, 1.5 wheelbase pickup shoes, and track pin, while keeping the outer dimensions tight enough that the original body shell drops on without modification.

After a few print iterations to dial in fit and clearance, the chassis came together with full Mega G+ hardware throughout. The Hot Wheels premium wheels mount directly on the rear axle. The whole underside is purpose-built slot car geometry hiding underneath a completely stock die-cast body.

The process ended up being more than a one-off — it served as proof of concept and helped define a workflow for taking any die-cast casting and turning it into a functional HO slot car.
